I love Baton Rouge for every reason. History, beauty, and culture abound in the area. You have world famous dining, shopping for all tastes (high fashion or bargain hunters), easy navigation, etc....
My father lives there and there is always something going on. New Orleans is just a pleasure drive away. It is the central hub to anything and anywhere.

On the Mississippi River corridor between New Orleans and St. Francisville you will find some of the most striking examples of antebellum plantations still standing on the Great River Road in the South. Perhaps the most stunning example is Oak Alley, with its enormous quarter-mile of oak trees lined up like sentries leading to the columned entrance to the plantation. While you can't stay in the main Greek Revival mansion, there are guest cottages on the property that include breakfast in the price. Also in Vacherie is the Creole sugar plantation Laura, where the West African tales of Br'er Rabbit were first recorded. The tour here bases its information on the 500 pages of diary entries written by the plantation's namesake mistress. If spooky is your bag, the 1796 Myrtles Plantation, has supposed photographic evidence on its website of its ghostly former inhabitants, and also allows you to stay overnight in the main house, if you dare. From every direction, everything uniquely Louisiana culminates here in the state’s capital city. There are few southern cities that offer the diversity of culture and entertainment found in Baton Rouge. Louisiana’s state capital is a charming city that has gracefully merged her past with the energy and excitement of the present. TripAdvisor.com User

BREC Baton Rouge Zoo - What I like best about the Baton Rouge Zoo is that is is big enough to have a great time yet not so big that you get lost in the crowd. The animals have life-like environments and there is a lot of room for the zoo to expand. I know you will have a great time here also.

LSU's Mike the Tiger Vl The old enclosure for Mike the Tiger was only 2,000 square feet in size with minimal amenities. The new environment created for Mike is over 15,000 square feet in size with lush planting, a large Live Oak tree, a beautiful waterfall and a stream evolving from a rocky backdrop overflowing with plants and trees. The habitat has, as a backdrop, an Italianate tower, a campanile, that creates a visual bridge to the Italianate architectural vernacular that is the underpinning of the image of the entire beautiful LSU campus. This spectacular new habitat features state-of-the-art technologies, research, conservation and husbandry programs. It is, in essence, one of the largest and finest Tiger habitats in the United States! More about LSU's Mike the Tiger Vl
The Red Stick on Campus at Southern University
The Choctaw Indians called a red cypress tree it's Houma, meaning red tree or pole. Baton Rouge is French for "red stick". The Red Stick is located on Scott's Bluff at Southern University campus, overlooking the Mississippi River. The "Red Stick" is made of aluminum, it stands a total height of 36 feet. The sculpture was officially dedicated on September 9, 1976. It is believed that the Houmas Indians first erected a pole on that very sight which was used to dry fish and skins and thereby received its red color.

Lousiana's State Capitol - The Tallest State Capitol in the Country What began as the dream of one man - Governor Huey P. Long - became a symbol of pride, history and the spirit of Louisiana people. The building, completed in 1932 in a mere 14 months, stands on a 27-acre tract. As the tallest capitol in the U.S., the building is 450 feet high with 34 floors. The cost to complete the building cost a modest $5 million to build. There is tremendous symbolism throughout the design of the building, from the outside to the inside, including the Hall and the Senate and House Chambers. The Observation Deck is on the 27th floor and overlooks the city of Baton Rouge at a height of 350 feet. The views of the gardens are spectacular. In 1935, the building that Long built was also the site of his assassination. Senator Long is buried on the grounds and his statue faces the Capitol.
