The Civil War Medicine Museum is worth it for sure. There is also a walk of downtown Frederick which is wonderful! If you go to the visitor's center on Church Street and pick up their brochure, there is a walking tour.
Frederick is a beautiful, vibrant city with many good restaurants downtown. The Carroll Creek project is finished and it is lovely to walk around and the weather should be cooler which makes walking around so much more enjoyable at least as far as I am concerned. The Monocacy Battlefield is not far from Frederick nor is Antietam. South Mountain is just "over the hill". And like I said, the walking tour of downtown is great.

In recent years, Frederick has grown from a largely agricultural community to the second largest city in the state--a bustling Washington suburb with a population of over 45,000--and it's still growing. Despite this, the city has managed to maintain its small-town charm. The 55-block historic district with its 18th- and 19th-century buildings and the clustered church spires that make up Frederick's skyline are still a main attraction. Antiques and craft shops dominate the downtown shopping area, and Frederick has a vibrant restaurant and bar scene. North and west of the city, the agricultural community still thrives: Fresh produce from local orchards and farms is available all summer, and in early spring newborn foals can be seen romping in the pastures of the county's horse farms.

We were traveling from Florida to Gettysburg, PA when we came upon a road sign directing us to the National Shrine Grotto of Lourdes. My husband, our two best friends from Nebraska and myself drove up the narrow, winding road on the side of the mountain to a most peaceful, beautiful and spiritual location. We walked along the path where we passed the Stations of the Cross surrounded by beautiful landscapes of bushes and flowers. Benches graced the walkway. We stopped to pray at the chapel. We were so moved by the experience that we came back Sunday to meditate at the grotto and attend services. The subject of the week in the newsletter was, "In God's plan, nothing happens by chance." This unexpected side trip on the side of a mountain was the highlight of our journey.
